Community Relations & Public Information
The Community Relations position within the Farmington Police Department plays a central role in connecting the department with the people it serves. Staffed by a non-sworn employee who also serves as the department’s Public Information Officer (PIO), this role focuses on building trust, transparency, and meaningful relationships between the police department, local businesses and organizations, and the broader community. Through proactive outreach and consistent communication, Community Relations helps strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and the residents of Farmington.
Building Trust Through Engagement
Community Relations leads the department’s public relations efforts with the goal of fostering a community built on trust and collaboration. This includes creating new partnerships, supporting existing relationships, and serving as a bridge between the department and the public. Through community events, outreach initiatives, and ongoing collaboration with local organizations, this role ensures the Farmington Police Department remains accessible, approachable, and responsive to community needs.
Public Information and Media Communication
As the department’s Public Information Officer, Community Relations is responsible for disseminating accurate, timely, and transparent information to the media and the public. This includes coordinating press releases, responding to media inquiries, and providing clear information during critical incidents or developing situations. By ensuring consistent and factual messaging, the PIO helps keep the community informed while supporting public safety and understanding.
Digital Outreach and Transparency
Community Relations also manages the department’s official social media platforms, using them as tools for education, engagement, and real-time communication. These platforms are used to share safety information, department updates, community highlights, and important alerts. Through digital outreach, the department is able to reach a wide audience quickly while maintaining open lines of communication with the public.
