Records & Evidence

The Records and Evidence sections are the administrative and custodial heart of the Farmington Police Department. Staffed by a dedicated team of civilian professionals, these units ensure the integrity of the department's data and the security of all physical evidence. Operating Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, these teams provide the essential infrastructure that supports our officers in the field and the justice system as a whole.

Records Management & Public Transparency

Our Records staff is responsible for the meticulous processing of all police reports, crash reports, and official documentation generated by our officers. Beyond internal data management, this unit serves as a vital link to the public and the legal community. They handle all public record inspections and discovery requests, ensuring that information is released accurately and in full compliance with state and federal laws. By maintaining these high standards of documentation, the Records unit ensures transparency and accountability for the entire community.

Evidence & Property Custody

The Evidence unit is responsible for the intake and preservation of tens of thousands of items of evidence and property. From the moment an item is collected in the field to its final disposition, our Evidence Technicians maintain a rigorous chain of custody. This ensures that every piece of evidence—whether it be recovered property or critical forensic material—is stored securely and is available for court proceedings. Their work is a cornerstone of the investigative process, ensuring that the integrity of every case is protected from start to finish.

In-Car and Body Camera Video Retention

The Farmington Police Department adheres to the City of Farmington's Administrative Regulation A-18-5, governing retention and destruction of City Records, pursuant to Resolution No. 2018-1692.

Record No.18.10.030 Video Recordings - Case File: Evidentiary footage or recordings of DUI arrest or any criminal incident - 1 year after date of incident or 60 days after date of court disposition, whichever is less.

Requesting Records

Citizens can review the daily log, request offense reports, accident reports, video recordings, photographs, criminal background checks, and alarm registrations at the records counter. Effective October 14, 2025, lapel and dash cam footage will only be produced on a 64GB flash drive. Fees will apply.

Records personnel can facilitate your right to inspect public records Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on major holidays and weekends) or by calling (505) 599-1053.

The Farmington Police Department does not charge for in-person viewing (by appointment only) or electronically transmitted reports.

Alarm Registration

You must complete an  Alarm Registration Form. This is required if you contract with an alarm company for locations within the Farmington city limits.

Property & Evidence

To inquire about the release of your property held in evidence, or to schedule an appointment to pick up property, click on this email address fpdevidence@farmingtonnm.gov to email the evidence technicians. The Property & Evidence Unit is staffed Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Please allow a business day for a response to your inquiry.

Evidence Discovery

Discovery is the process by which both the prosecution and the defense receive evidence for a case. The discovery technician processes the written request from parties which may include the District Attorney, Public Defender, Private Attorneys, and Citizens representing themselves. If you are requesting discovery complete the Evidence Discovery Form. All items must be paid in full prior to the delivery or pick-up if the requester is subject to fees. Please allow a minimum of 20 days for processing.

Trespass Authorization

Property owners must complete a Trespass, Citation, and Arrest Authorization Form. This is required to authorize the Farmington Police Department to enter and enforce Farmington City Code Sections 18-3-11 and/or 18-3-12 and/or other traffic and parking laws on the property.
