Region II Narcotics Task Force

Region II Narcotics Task Force

The Region II Narcotics Task Force is a specialized, multi-agency unit dedicated to the investigation, disruption, and dismantling of drug trafficking organizations operating within the Four Corners region. Recognizing that illegal narcotics and the violence associated with them do not respect jurisdictional boundaries, this task force pools the resources, expertise, and authority of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

A HIDTA Designated Initiative

Region II operates as part of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. This federal designation provides the task force with enhanced resources, specialized equipment, and a direct line of communication with federal partners. Being a HIDTA initiative allows our investigators to move beyond local street-level enforcement and target the larger distribution networks that supply illegal drugs to our community.

Multi-Agency Leadership & Collaboration

The strength of Region II lies in its collaborative structure. The task force is comprised of personnel from several agencies, including the Farmington Police Department and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Shared Command: Leadership is shared among the participating agencies to ensure a unified regional strategy. Currently, the Farmington Police Department contributes a supervisory position to help oversee the unit’s mission.
  • Investigative Agents: FPD provides dedicated investigative agents who work undercover and alongside officers from partner agencies. This "team-of-teams" approach allows for seamless intelligence sharing and more effective long-term investigations.

Our Mission: Targeting the Source

The task force focuses its efforts on high-impact investigations that address the root of the narcotics problem in our area:

  • Large-Scale Distribution: Identifying and intercepting the flow of illicit narcotics like fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin before they reach our neighborhoods.
  • Interdiction: Disrupting the transportation routes and methods used by trafficking organizations to move illegal substances through our region.

Violent Crime Reduction: Targeting the direct link between drug trafficking and violent crimes, such as illegal firearms possession and organized criminal actiegion.

Community Impact

By removing large quantities of dangerous drugs and the organizations that profit from them, the Region II Narcotics Task Force directly improves the quality of life for every citizen in Farmington and the surrounding areas. We are committed to an aggressive, intelligence-led approach to drug enforcement that prioritizes the safety of our families and the integrity of our region.
