Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC)
The Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) is the technological nerve center of the Farmington Police Department. Since its launch, the RTCC has evolved into a seasoned operational asset that provides "digital backup" to officers on the street. By focusing on real-time intelligence during the city’s busiest periods, the RTCC helps solve crimes as they happen and provides critical safety information to responding units.
Real-Time Intelligence & Officer Support
The RTCC is staffed approximately 20 hours per day, strategically aligned with the times when our community and officers need it most. Personnel in the RTCC act as a force multiplier for the Patrol Division, offering a "virtual arrival" on scenes before the first patrol car reaches the location.
This immediate intelligence includes:
- Pre-Arrival Briefings: Identifying suspect descriptions and vehicle flight paths to keep responding officers informed.
- Situational Awareness: Analyzing historical data at a call location—such as past hazard alerts or specific safety concerns—to ensure a more informed and safer response.
- Tactical Coordination: Providing a "big picture" view of a scene to help patrol supervisors coordinate resources during active incidents.
Investigative Impact
The RTCC provides an immediate advantage in a variety of criminal investigations. By synthesizing data and video feeds from across the city, the RTCC helps detectives and patrol officers close cases faster.
- Property Crimes: The center has a significant impact on the recovery of stolen vehicles and the identification of suspects in retail theft and burglaries.
- Missing Persons: The RTCC plays a pivotal role in locating missing children or endangered adults by rapidly scanning key corridors and last-known locations.
- Pattern Recognition: Working with our crime analysts to monitor emerging trends and provide real-time monitoring of areas experiencing temporary "spikes" in criminal activity.
Precision & Privacy
The Farmington Police Department is committed to the ethical use of technology. We view the RTCC as a tool for precision policing—targeting criminal behavior while maintaining the privacy and trust of our residents. By using technology to verify information and confirm leads, we ensure that our enforcement efforts are accurate, professional, and focused on keeping Farmington safe.
