The Farmington Police Department Volunteer Program is built on the belief that public safety is a shared responsibility. We invite dedicated community members to step behind the scenes and take an active role in supporting our mission. Our volunteers provide essential assistance that allows our sworn officers to focus on primary enforcement duties, acting as a vital bridge between the department and the citizens we serve.

A Community Partnership

Volunteering with the police department is a unique way to give back to the City of Farmington. Our program is designed for those who want to make a difference without the requirement of a long-term hourly commitment. Whether you are looking to learn more about law enforcement, develop new skills, or simply foster new friendships, our volunteers are valued members of the FPD team who help us build a stronger, safer community.

Hands-On Opportunities

Our volunteers don’t work in a vacuum; they work hand-in-hand with department personnel. Because our needs are diverse, we rely on "On-the-Job Training" (OJT). This means you’ll be mentored directly by our staff for specific tasks as they arise, ensuring you feel confident and prepared in your role.

Opportunities for involvement include:

  • Special Events & Outreach: Working alongside officers at city festivals, parades, and community gatherings to ensure a safe and successful event for everyone.
  • Park & Riverwalk Patrol: Assisting our team in maintaining a helpful and observant presence in Farmington’s high-traffic recreational areas.
  • Technical Services: Providing a helping hand with public fingerprinting services and administrative tasks that keep our support divisions moving.
  • Neighborhood & Safety Programs: Assisting with the coordination of Neighborhood Watch and other local crime prevention initiatives.
  • Incident & Disaster Relief: Providing critical logistical support and relief during large-scale operations or community emergencies.

Eligibility & Qualifications

To maintain the high level of trust required to work within a law enforcement environment, our volunteers undergo a thorough vetting process. To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

  • Age: Be 19 years of age or older.
  • Background Check: Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting, a criminal records check, driving history, and personal reference checks.
  • Application: Complete and submit the online volunteer interest form.
